Joan Folk

Muriel “Joan” Folk, 89, Largo, Fla., passed away Nov. 14, 2020, in Largo. She was born April 2, 1931, in Plymouth, to Eddie Paul and Muriel (Champ) Overmyer. She had lived in Largo since 2018 and resided in Kosciusko County, Warsaw, since 1945.

On Dec. 19, 1954, she married James Lewis Folk in North Webster, who preceded her Nov. 5, 2020. She graduated from North Webster High School in 1949 and was a Manchester College graduate in 1954 with a B.S. Degree. She received her M.A. in Education from Indiana University with advanced teaching instruction from the University of Wisconsin.

She was a Goshen School elementary teacher for three years and then was a Milford, school teacher for 21 years, retiring with 21 years of service in Elementary, Junior and Senior Schools as a special needs teacher. In addition to her professional career she was a member of the Board of Directors of Timbercrest Healthcare from 2000-2003, an original driver for Mobile Meals of Kosciusko County in 1976, a board member of Lakeland Community Concerts from 2003-2004 and a member of the Kosciusko County Retired Teachers Association. Furthermore, she was North Winona Church of the Brethren member for over 60 years where she served on many committees as she was on the deacon board as a life member.

She is survived by daughters Cathy Folk, Warsaw; Anita (Dan) George, Largo, Fla.; a grandson Joshua (Amber) Folk of Fort Wayne and great-grandchildren Jorah and Ellison Folk, Fort Wayne, a brother Eddie Lynn Overmyer of Marion, and a daughter-in-law Eliza Folk of Denver, Colo. Her son, Greg, also passed away Nov. 14, 2020.

Due to current COVID-19 recommendations, masks are required. The public is kindly requested to provide their own. Social distancing is strongly encouraged. No food permitted at this time.

Services will be held in North Winona Church of the Brethren, 475 E. 100 N., Warsaw, IN 46582, at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Private Interment will be held. Calling hours from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, in the church. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with arrangements.
