Jerry Allen Hapner, 81, Syracuse, passed away at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse.

He was born on Oct. 13, 1939, in Warsaw, to James Edward and Martha Mildred (Richcreek) Hapner.

He was a lifetime Syracuse area resident, having graduated in 1957 from Syracuse High School. He was a United States Army veteran.

On Nov. 21, 1964, in Syracuse, he married Carolyn Sue Denton. She survives.

He formerly worked at Johnson Controls, Goshen, StarCraft, Goshen, Newmar, Nappanee, New Market, Syracuse, Barth Manufacturing, Milford, Quality Cedar Products, Syracuse, Sea Nymph, Syracuse, Reimer’s Ice, North Webster, and U Store It, Syracuse. He was the owner/operator of Hapner Home Care & Lawn Maintenance, Syracuse.

He attended the Vineyard Community Church, Syracuse, and formerly attended the Zion Chapel, Goshen, and Syracuse Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hapner, Syracuse; three daughters, Cynthia Sue (Moses) Mihingo, Syracuse, Irene Renee Hapner, Syracuse, and Faith Christine Hapner, Bellefontaine, Ohio; his son, John Allen (Kim) Hapner, Syracuse; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Fred (Ann) Hapner and Joe (JoAnn) Hapner, both of Syracuse.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Joyce Kitson and Delores Gerber.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Solomon Creek Cemetery near Benton.
