Pierceton Woman Sentenced To Nine Years In Prison
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Pierceton woman was sentenced to nine years in prison during a change of plea hearing in Kosciusko County Circuit Court Monday, Dec. 7.
Shanelle D. Byrer, 26, 8280 E US 30, Pierceton, pleaded guilty to dealing methamphetamine, a level 3 felony.
In February, a NET43 informant made arrangements to purchase 2 ounces of methamphetamine from Byrer for $1,300. The informant met Byrer at a local gas station and used NET43 documented money to make the purchase.
Byrer entered the informant’s vehicle and sold the informant methamphetamine.
“I know I did wrong. I’m ready to fix it,” Byrer told Judge Michael Reed in court Monday. “It’s too late to fix some things, but it’s not too late to fix myself.”
“I hope that’s true. You know what to do,” Reed replied. “I’m looking at the problem — but I’m also looking at the solution.”
Two other cases were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. An additional charge was also dismissed. Byrer was ordered to reimburse NET43 for any buy money used in this case. Appropriate jail time credit will be applied.
Reed said he would consider a sentence modification in the future if Byrer successfully completes substance abuse treatment while incarcerated and stays drug-free and conduct-clear. Byrer will serve her sentence at the Indiana Department of Corrections.
