WARSAW — A man from Peru received a suspended 3 1/2-year sentence after threatening a woman and violating a protective order.
In the first case, Bobby Dean Olinger, 55, 478 E. 5th St., Peru, was charged with intimidation, a level 6 felony. Olinger was also charged with invasion of privacy, a class A misdemeanor, in a second case. A marijuana possession case was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Olinger was sentenced in Kosciusko Superior Court 2 on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
On Aug. 6, 2019, a Warsaw Police officer went to a location regarding a woman being harassed by Olinger.
According to court documents, the officer spoke with the woman, who said Olinger had threatened to damage her vehicle and hurt her. The woman showed the officer threatening messages that Olinger had sent the woman. Officers told Olinger to stop contacting the woman and released him from the scene.
Officers then listened to voicemails that Olinger left the woman. In those voicemails, Olinger threatened to harm the woman and her family. After listening to the voicemails, officers went to Olinger’s residence and arrested him. While being taken into custody, Olinger admitted to sending threatening voicemails to the woman.
On Sept. 7, 2019, the woman contacted police and said Olinger was at her residence; at the time, the woman had protective and no-contact orders against Olinger.
The woman told officers that she was sleeping when she heard Olinger knocking at her bedroom window. She said Olinger was just checking on her to make sure she was okay; however, due to previous incidents with Olinger, the woman became frightened and called police.
For intimidation, Kosciusko Superior Court 2 Judge Torrey Bauer sentenced Olinger to 2 1/2 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections; Olinger was also sentenced to one year in the Kosciusko County Jail for invasion of privacy. All of Olinger’s sentence is suspended on probation, with both cases to be served consecutively.
