NorthWood Boys 54, Columbia CIty 37
A consistent approach pushed NorthWood to a seventh win Tuesday night at The Pit.
NorthWood outpointed City in all four quarters to maintain its advantage, taking a 27-18 lead into the lockerroom and then outscoring City by five in the third quarter. In the midst of the build, NorthWood created a 15-2 run in the second half.
Ian Raasch led the Panthers (7-1) with 14 points, Cade Brenner added 13 points and seven rebounds, and Ben Vincent had 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Mason Baker had a game-high 17 points to pace the Eagles.
Lakeland Christian Boys 48, Covenant Christian DeMotte 42
Lakeland concluded its hosting of the boys side of the Cougar Classic with a win over Covenant in the consolation round of the tournament.
Seth Martin outscored Covenant on his own in the first quarter, 8-7, and would go on to score 21 to lead the Cougars in the win. Landon Gause and Cam Shepherd each tossed in 11 points in the winning effort. The Cougars (4-3) finished third place in the tournament with the Tuesday win.
Isaac Alblas led Covenant with 15 points.
“After having our two best offensive outputs of the season yesterday we followed it up with our best defensive showing today against a solid Covenant team,” said LCA head coach Jake Ritchie. “I was incredibly proud of the effort and togetherness our guys showed on the defensive end. Hunter Rice and Silas Gagnon really took it upon themselves to stop their individual matchups and did exactly what we needed them to do.”
Wrapping up the tournament, Granger Christian topped Clinton Christian 61-55 in the fifth-place game, and in the title game, Adams Central bested Bethany Christian 48-33 to win its first Cougar Classic title.
The Boys All-Tournament Team included Nick Schrock of Clinton, Giancarlo Leonor of Granger Christian, Martin of LCA, Alblas of Covenant, Beck Willems of Bethany and Braysen Yergler of Adams. Ethan Poling of Adams Central was the tournament MVP.
Lakeland Christian Girls 56, Central Christian 7
A 15-0 first quarter bulge was more than enough for LCA to grab fifth place in the Cougar Classic.
Jessi Calizo had 13 first-half points and 19 points overall to pace the Cougars (3-4). Alexis Miller added 10 points and Natalie Norris had eight points in the victory.
Wrapping up the tournament, Granger Christian beat Clinton 55-40, and in the final, Bethany rolled over Covenant 58-16.
The Girls All-Tournament Team included Calizo of LCA, Skylar Bos and Sydnie Bakker of Covenant, Zoe Willems of Bethany, Erin Aldridge of Granger and Allison Snyder of Clinton. Bethany’s Sadie Brenneman was named the tournament MVP.
