Oregon-Davis Girls 52, Triton 37
The Bobcats handed Triton its fifth straight defeat Wednesday at the Trojan Trench.
The open of the game and the third quarters were absolute for O-D, the Bobcats outscoring Triton 30-18 in those two quarters, using a 19-13 spread in the third quarter to take a 43-29 lead.
The duo of Mercedes Rhodes and Madilynn Hudspeth each scored 19 points and combined for 11 rebounds and three steals. Makenna Chessor added 10 points and five rebounds.
Emma Hepler paced the Trojans (4-9) with 14 points and four rebounds, and Abbey Viers hauled in 11 rebounds and had four blocks.
Wawasee C-Team Boys 35, East Noble 23
Wawasee moved to 5-4 overall with 10 points from both Brayden Mickley and Aidan Monds.
“Great team effort tonight for a bounce back win versus a tough East Noble team,” said Wawasee coach Andrew Wilson.
IWU Women 82, Grace 69
The six-game winning streak for Grace’s women’s basketball team ended on Wednesday during an 82-69 defeat at Indiana Wesleyan.
The Lady Lancers suffered one poor quarter during the second period. Apart from the second quarter, Grace actually outscored IWU by one.
Grace started the game well thanks to Kyannah Stull. The senior scored eight points in the first two minutes to give Grace an early advantage.
She buried her third 3-pointer of the quarter shortly after as Grace jumped ahead 13-6.
The Wildcats trailed for nearly the entire quarter but managed to cut Grace’s margin to 20-19 by the quarter’s end.
With 6:42 remaining in the second quarter, the score was tied 28-28. But Grace went cold offensively, which proved costly.
The Lady Lancers only made one more field goal for the rest of the half. IWU took advantage to earn a double-digit lead.
Another triple by Stull just before halftime cut IWU’s lead down to 48-35 at halftime.
Grace shot 39 percent from the floor compared to 51 percent for IWU.
The Lady Lancers faced a double-digit deficit until a final push. Kiara Gill gave Grace a spark with back-to-back baskets, and a score from Kaylie Warble brought the Lady Lancers to within 76-69 with 2:47 remaining.
But Grace misfired on its final four possessions, allowing IWU to ease away for the win.
Dayton Groninger led IWU to the win with a huge night. The Warsaw grad tallied 26 points and six rebounds, and former Tippecanoe Valley product Anne Secrest recorded 12 points and five rebounds.
For the game Grace had 19 turnovers compared to 17 for the Wildcats. The Lady Lancers finished with a shooting percentage of 42 percentage, and the Wildcats shot 51 percent.
Stull poured in 22 points, 5 steals and 3 rebounds, and Kamryn Hostetler added 14 points and two assists.
Kenzie McMahon tallied 12 points and seven boards off the bench, Kaylie Warble notched eight points and five rebounds, and Kiersten Poor added 6 points, 3 boards and 2 assists.
The Lady Lancers remain on the road Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup with Taylor.
