Swim Results: Jan. 9
Goshen Girls 94, Wawasee 84
Wawasee Boys 92, Goshen 91
A third-place relay in the final 400 free relay put Wawasee over on Goshen Saturday in the Northern Lakes Conference swim dual at Goshen Middle School.
Wawasee won the 400 free relay at 3:29.25, and as Goshen came in second, Wawasee was right behind in third, holding off Goshen’s second relay, scoring the final two points of the meet to nab the win. The final relay scoring was 10-4 in favor of Wawasee to make up the final scoring.
Wawasee (5-2 NLC) also won the medley relay (1:48.35) and had a trio of event wins from Nathan Kryder in the 200 free (1:55.66), Josh Metcalf in the 100 free (53.95) and Nathan Harper in the backstroke (57.62).
On the girls side, Wawasee (3-4 NLC) had seven wins, but in a season where its depth has been an issue in team scoring, Goshen had more seconds and thirds to edge out the scoring.
Lilly Tyler had a pair of distance wins with the 200 (2:07.07) and 500 (5:38.05) freestyles, Alexis Mishler won the 50 free (26.00), Cammy Kryder claimed the backstroke (1:02.37), and Hayden Neer edged teammate Rileigh Atwood to win the breaststroke (1:10.41-1:10.89). Add in medley (1:58.04) and 400 free (4:12.23) relay wins for the Lady Warriors.
Concord Girls 133, Warsaw 52
Concord Boys 104, Warsaw 79
Concord swept all 12 events of Saturday’s dual at Warsaw on the girls side while the Minutemen boys stayed undefeated in the NLC with its win over the Tigers.
As the Concord boys withstood its test with the 4-3 Tigers, a pair of Warsaw swimmers were the only ones to break through. Michael Ray won both sprint freestyles, taking the 50 (22.35) and 100 (49.15). Nate Taylor won the butterfly (57.69) and the 500 freestyle (5:27.16).
Concord sits at 6-0 with just a dual against NorthWood on Tuesday standing in the way of a perfect run through the conference. The round robin serves as half the equation to winning the NLC, the NLC Championships as the other half.
Concord’s girls moved to 5-1 with a sweep of Warsaw. Grace Brenneman, Ella Lantz and Bella Sponseller both won two events and Brenneman helped two relay wins, Lantz and Sponseller winning one relay each. Brenneman won the 200 (1:55.99) and backstroke (1:00.27), Lantz the 50 (26.06) and 100 (56.92) and Sponseller the fly (1:03.52) and breast (1:11.05).
Warsaw settles at 5-2 overall and third place.
The Northern Lakes Conference Girls Swimming Championships will take place this weekend.
