Mary Agnes Johnson
Mary Agnes Johnson, 89, Arcola, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born Aug. 20, 1931, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of James and Alice (McLaughlin) Clark.
She attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church School and graduated from Jefferson High School with the Class of 1949. On June 6, 1953, she married Gerald Johnson at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Mary worked at Maloley’s Grocery in Fort Wayne for 13 years and Huntertown Dental Service for over 11 years, retiring in 2007. Mary was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where she served as a Lector and the Rosary Sodality. She also was a member of American Legion Post 82-Auxiliary.
Mary was all about her family, was caring and had a great sense of humor. She and Gerald were avid cruise line travelers and she always had a bag packed and ready to go. She loved big crowds and excitement. Mary enjoyed going to Notre Dame football games, even watching them in Ireland and Hawaii; going to the Indy 500 and the Kentucky Derby; watching the Philharmonic Orchestra; and she found relaxation in bird watching.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Gerald Johnson; daughters: Cheryl (Dietmar) Knott, Annette (Tim) Dickmeyer and Denise (Kent) Bowman; sons: Gary Johnson, Kevin (Jacqui) Johnson, David (Dawn) Johnson and Donald (Anne) Johnson; brother, Francis (Barbara) Clark; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; along with expecting two more great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ralph Clark and James Clark; sister, Margaret Nusbaum; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with a Rosary prayer beginning at 12:45. Face masks are required for attendance. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 12305 Arcola Rd, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior.
Her funeral Mass may also be watched live on Facebook through DeMoney Grimes Live beginning at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given in her memory to Masses.
