Syracuse Public Library Offering Clay Art Class
Press Release
SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Public Library and the Indiana Arts Commission are offering another class of clay art with Elizabeth Wamsley.
Sign-up is now available to experience some techniques that create with clay coils at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13. The class is free and everything is provided. Anyone from the September class is welcome to sign up but there is a $15 charge. Wamsley is a master potter and clay artist, producing a variety of big and small, useful and decorative items in her studio besides teaching beginner and advanced classes.
Start the new year with purpose by participating in the “I’m Breaking Out in 2021” book challenge. Some people know how many books they read in a year, but for many it is not something they have thought about. Evergreen cardholders that use the Syracuse Library are invited to keep a log with the titles of books that they read or listen to, from January through October. Sign up online at the library and receive either a log or Excel spreadsheet. Drawings and a movie/snack bar will be awarded to participants in October.
Book Club
The next title the book club is reading is “The Giver of Stars” by Jojo Moyes. This is a softer version of “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.” The stories are fictional accounts of the packhorse librarians that delivered books in rural Kentucky in the 1930s until the early 1940s. Copies of the book are available for pickup. The Zoom discussion of “Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress is at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9. Contact the library to join the discussion.
Practice using Zoom at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3. Let the library know you are interested and leave an e-mail address to be invited and to receive coaching.
Children’s Department
The children’s department is making appointments to make a birdhouse with Miss Rebekah. While in the library, families are welcome to play with games and toys and pick up a take home kit for crafts while picking out books and movies. Book publishing has not taken a break from COVID-19, so come in to see what is new.
