INDIANAPOLIS – Alexis Mishler has extended her swim season one more day.
The Wawasee sophomore posted a 24.14 in the 50 freestyle preliminaries to qualify for the consolation finals at the IHSAA Girls Swimming State Finals Friday night at IUPUI.
Mishler’s time was 14th best on the day, which had prelim rounds split in half with Wawasee, Concord, Northridge and half the state swimming at noon while Warsaw, Culver Academy, Manchester and the other half starting at 5:30 p.m. Mishler’s time was right on the edge of qualification, as the difference between 14th and 17th was .05. The top 16 earn Saturday swims, top eight in the championship and the next eight in the consoles.
Wawasee’s other entry, the medley relay, featured Mishler, Hayden Neer, Rileigh Atwood and Cammy Kryder. Their time of 1:51.34 did not make the cut for a Saturday swim.
Warsaw had three entries in Friday’s festivities. It’s medley relay team of Rachel Doyle, Macelyn Marcuccilli, Maddy Morgan and Lily Boston timed a 1:59.43. It’s 200 free relay team of Marcuccilli, Boston, Madi Johnson and Marissa Howett timed a 1:43.93. Both relays were short of qualification.
Doyle had the only solo swim for Warsaw, going 1:03.12 in her final backstroke swim of the season.
Manchester had two swims each from Halle Briner and Josie Briner. Halle’s 1:05.94 in the breaststroke was the closest to qualification, missing a console swim by .09.
Concord and Northridge are bringing back a host of swimmers for Saturday.
The two programs have all three of their relays qualified, and Concord has Grace Brenneman active for two championship swims. Her 23.26 in the 50 freestyle has her sixth, and the Concord star is also sixth in the 100 freestyle after posting a 50.46.
Kiran Stauffer is also in two consolation swims for the Minutemen.
Syd Nethercutt is in two console swims for Ridge, and Anna Yeater and Hailey Clark are both in one consolation.
Bremen’s Kaia Podlin is also qualified for two consolation finals.
Swimming events begin at 3:30 p.m., which follows the full diving program that begins at 9 a.m. Northridge has three divers and Concord one heading into the competition.
