VALPARAISO – Concord’s Ethan Smith will continue onto the IHSAA Diving State Finals while a pair of locals saw their seasons come to a close.
At Tuesday’s IHSAA Boys Diving Regional at Valparaiso, Smith hung a 440.90 on the scoreboard to finish fourth among the field of 20. Needing to be one of the top eight to move onto this weekend’s final in Indianapolis, Smith was one of four area divers to make the grade. Penn’s Tomas Salas was second at 476.75, short of regional champion Zach Ramacci of Lake Central, who scored 489.40.
Elkhart’s Nick Hardy was fifth (424.50) and Culver Academy’s Reid Omilian was sixth (405.55). Ethan Ferba of Hobart, Josiah Miller of Michigan City and Devan Himes of Knox also qualified for state.
Valpo was the end of the road for Warsaw’s Jayce Sawyer, who didn’t make it to the final, finishing at 231.95, and NorthWood’s Nick Jones, who had a 192.90.
