Byrd, Schott Land Top Fives At Swim State

INDIANAPOLIS – The 2020-21 boys swim season reached a finish Saturday with the championship round of the IHSAA Boys Swim State Finals.
Carmel made it seven years of Greyhound swim sweeps by clobbering the field once again, scoring 360 points to retain the team title despite only winning three events. Fishers was second and Zionsville third at the top of the list which included Penn in fifth.
The Kingsmen won a title in the 200 free relay, repeating as event champions with a mind-numbing 1:21.29, just .08 off the state record.
Culver Academy’s Mitchell Schott finished his junior season in style, taking third in the 500 freestyle at 4:25.79 and tied for fourth in the 200 freestyle at 1:38.02. Schott’s teammate, Reid Omilian, would place 14th in diving at 412.10.
Elkhart’s Lucas Byrd made the podium in two events, placing fourth in the breaststroke at 55.83 and seventh in the 100 freestyle at 45.61.
The Northern Lakes Conference was represented in two individuals, led by Northridge’s Luke Dibley winning the consolation round of the 500 freestyle at 4:35.12 with Concord rival Tommy Brunner 11th at 4:36.27. Dibley would also place 12th in the 200 freestyle at 1:42.29.
