Gaff Among Crossroads POWs

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from April 19 through 25. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Softball Player of the Week
Miranda Wehrle, Indiana Wesleyan
Wehrle collected 12 hits in 20 at bats for No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan, mixing in three doubles and one home run while slugging .900. The sophomore added seven RBI and scored three times.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Emmalee Hamp, Spring Arbor
Hamp tossed a complete game in Spring Arbor’s 5-1 upset of No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan, fanning 10 batters over seven innings and allowing just five hits and one walk.
Baseball Player of the Week
Tanner Killian, Indiana Wesleyan
Killian did plenty of damage for No. 19 IWU in a series win over Grace, hitting .600 with three home runs, three doubles and 10 runs batted in. Killian struck out just one time in 15 at bats and posted a slugging percentage of 1.400 for the Wildcats.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Tanner Gaff, Saint Francis
Gaff improved to 8-1 on the season with a complete-game, 11-strikeout effort in USF’s 6-1 upset of No. 21 Taylor. The senior allowed just two hits and issued three walks without allowing an earned run in the seven-inning game.
Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Emma Wilson, Huntington
Wilson broke another record, this time setting Huntington’s new mark with a winning time of 4:24.66 in the 1,500-meters at her home meet. Wilson’s time is the best in the NAIA this season and automatically qualified her for NAIA Nationals.
Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Jai-Lyn Norwood, Marian
Norwood scored a win in the triple jump with the seventh-best mark in the NAIA this season. The junior’s distance of 12.03 meters at Indiana Tech’s meet earned an automatic qualification into NAIA Nationals.
Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Adrien Gentie, Huntington
Gentie raced to a new Huntington record with a winning time of 14:27.95 in the 5,000-meters, posting the best time in the NAIA this season and automatically qualifying for NAIA Nationals.
Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Noah Bise, Huntington
Bise showed well in his home meet, winning the long jump and triple jump events for the Foresters.
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Jessica Shurety, Bethel
Shurety claimed her third individual title of the spring season for No. 14 Bethel, topping the field of 38 at the Ackerman-Allen Classic with a two-round score of 153.
Men’s Golfer of the Week
Javan Johnson, Taylor
Johnson finished second at the Ackerman-Allen Classic for RV Taylor, firing a two-round total of 143 to finish one-under par.
