Syracuse Public Library May Events, Activities
News Release
SYRACUSE — Here are a few things to expect at the Syracuse Library. Masks are being worn in the building, but the books are no longer in quarantine. The toys are out in the children’s department for lots of play times when visiting. Tweens have an area where there are toys and games either for individual quiet times or a place to meet with friends.
The Adult book club messages through email then offers two discussion times. “Open House,” by Elizabeth Berg will be talked about through a zoom meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 11 and in-person at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 13.
Anyone with a library card will want to get a few packets of free vegetable and flower seeds for this year’s growing season. The average last frost date is May 15 for Turkey Creek Township. Meet other adults outside with a walk on the trail each Thursday at 9 a.m. from May through September. Meet at the library to join in.

Children are welcome to spend time with the toys and other children when the library is open. But for activities, crafts and singing, story times are offered on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. All programs are in-person this summer. Families should put Friday mornings at the library on the schedule, when a few guest presenters and many low-tech events will keep families coming back for more Tails and Tales adventures. The summer programs are easy and fun with reading rewards and lots of in-person activities beginning on Tuesday, June 1.
Teen video night is back on Thursday, May 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The group meets in the meeting room where there are plenty of screens, chairs, controllers and snacks. Teens will be able to get signed up for summer reading as May progresses. The official start date is Tuesday, June 1.
May 6 is the date for the first live and in-person meeting of the Friends of the Library group. They are mainly discussing the paddle auction that was suspended last year. Members and those attending are invited to come to the back door of the library at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 6 or to ask for a zoom connection that will be provided.
