WARSAW — Hoffman Lake Campground has new management who will carry on a family tradition.
The Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce had a ribbon-cutting for the campground, 7638 W. CR 300N, Warsaw, on Tuesday, May 11.
Bill and Bev Long started the campground 57 years ago, said their granddaughter Stacie Anderson. She and her husband Brent Anderson are now running it.
“We took over as the managers last year when my uncle and cousin decided they didn’t want to do it anymore and we lived in my grandparents’ house and we were like, we would love to do it because it’s the perfect place for our family to grow up and have a great experience,” Stacie Anderson said.
The couple has four sons: Sawyer, Jax, Tripp and Briggs.
Growing up, her immediate family was busy with activities but “came here on the weekends when we could,” she said.
“It was still an amazing place to have friends and I actually just met someone who I used to play with as a kid here the other weekend,” she said.
Hoffman Lake Campground opened this year on April 15 and ends its season on Oct. 17.
The campground features more than 170 sites, with people being able to rent for the season, a month or a weekend. There are two cabins for those who don’t want to stay in a tent or camper.
The location also has a pool, splash pad, bathhouses, rec hall, basketball court and mini golf. The Andersons spruced up the campground’s store with fresh paint and new flooring.
They also worked on the landscaping. Brent Anderson is experienced in that area as his family owns Anderson Property Management Solutions in Warsaw.
Plans are to add more transient sites to the campground in five to 10 years, said Stacie Anderson.
She said she hopes people realize there’s more than one place to camp in the area.
“Because somebody just said, ‘I didn’t even know this was back here. It’s like a little hidden gem,'” she said. “Hopefully it gets out there more so that people can have that close to home getaway.”
