WARSAW — Kosciusko County Councilman Doug Heinisch, who represents District 1, has resigned his position effective Tuesday, May 18.
Mike Ragan, Kosciusko County Republican Chairman, and Ann Torpy, county clerk, received his letter of resignation.
“It’s simple,” said Heinisch. “My travel schedule at work has changed.” During the pandemic, traveling for work was not an issue. “Now coming out of it, I’m in a position where I’m on the road a lot more.”
Heinisch stated he missed the May council meeting due to his travel schedule and he will miss most of the meetings during the summer months.
“You cannot be as effective if you’re not there,” he said, adding, “I wouldn’t be as effective.”
Heinisch was first elected to the county council in 2010 and was last re-elected in 2018. During his 11 years on the council, Heinisch stated he has “learned a lot and met so many good people who care about the community.”
Ragan said he has between 10 to 30 days to call a caucus of eligible Republican Precinct Committee members to vote on a replacement. An announcement is expected later this week of when the caucus will be held and the timeline for eligible people to declare his/her candidacy.
The County Council District 1 seat serves Turkey Creek and Tippecanoe township and a portion of Washington Township.
