WARSAW — Veterans will once again be honored during a Warsaw First Friday event.
On Friday, June 4, veterans are invited to a ceremony outside the Kosciusko County Courthouse. Kosciusko Honor & Remember is putting on the event.
This is the fourth time there’s been such an event during First Friday, said First Friday Coordinator Paula Bowman.
Any veteran is welcome to attend, said Bowman, but ones who served during World War II, from 1975 to the present or who haven’t been honored during a previous First Friday are especially asked to come.
Veterans are asked to fill out a form with their basic information ahead of time, which may be found and dropped off at Latte Lounge or The Salvation Army. People also may call Bowman at 574-376-0233 to give information.
Bowman asks that be done as soon as possible. She said there will be a golf cart to transport veterans to the ceremony if family wish to drop them off.
That drop-off location will be at Lake and Center streets. Family and friends are welcome to attend the ceremony, but should provide their own chairs. Chairs will be provided for veterans, and they may feel free to wear their uniforms or other insignia.
First Friday runs from 5-9 p.m., and the ceremony is to start at 6:30 p.m. There will be a performance by the Lakes Area Community Band.
Local veteran Douglas Long is also scheduled to speak at the event.
Bowman said the event is just about “expressing our gratitude for (the veterans’) service … and keeping us safe.”
Also during June’s First Friday, people are welcome to take part in a community art project. Bowman said up to 15 teams of two people may sign up to paint the background of a mural.
The details on it will be completed by artists Brandon Eads and Nathan Underneath. People should sign up as soon as possible by calling Bowman at the above number.
