Woman Arrested For Stealing Vehicle, Using Debit Card Without Permission
Staff Report
WARSAW — A woman from Ligonier faces multiple charges after stealing a man’s vehicle and using his debit card without permission.
Shayla K. Slone, 24, 1226 Lincolnway West, Ligonier, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, fraud, and theft, all level 6 felonies.
On June 7, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s officer received a report of theft. A man said his vehicle and other personal items were stolen from his home.
According to court documents, the man told the officer he suspected Slone was the person who took his property without permission. The man said Slone had stayed at his home for a couple of days prior to the theft.
Around 10 p.m. June 6, the man’s vehicle was still at his home. Slone was also staying there at the time. The man said he woke up about six hours later and saw his home was in disarray. His vehicle, a 2005 Chevy Malibu, was also missing. The man told the officer his debit card had been used to withdraw $2,800 from his account and that Slone was the only other person who had access to the debit card.
On June 9, a Warsaw Police officer found the man’s stolen vehicle and pulled the driver over. The driver was identified as Slone; she told officers that the man had sold her the vehicle but provided no proof of the sale or ownership. She was arrested on scene for stealing the vehicle.
Upon arrival at the Kosciusko County Jail, Slone told officers she had methamphetamine concealed on her person. Jail staff found a plastic bag containing methamphetamine on Slone.
Slone has been released on her own recognizance and has an initial hearing at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, July 15.
