New Parkview Pediatrician Joins Warsaw Community
Press Release
WARSAW — Pediatrician Jeffrey D. O’Dell, MD, has joined the team of Parkview Physicians Group providers caring for patients at Parkview Warsaw.
“We are so pleased to have a physician with such varied and extensive medical experience join us,” said Jeffrey Rockett, vice-president of outpatient services, Parkview Warsaw. “Dr. O’Dell connects with people very easily and makes them feel more comfortable, even when young patients and their parents are a bit anxious. We are fortunate to have him here.”
O’Dell recently arrived in the community after a 36-year career in the U.S. Navy, 24 of them in the Medical Corps. The retired captain has gained a rich span of experience in a variety of roles, from active duty as a nuclear submarine officer aboard the USS James Monroe and the USS Pittsburgh, to providing instruction in officer programs at the Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Fla., to medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Md.
Following his internship and pediatrics residency at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va., O’Dell served as staff pediatrician at the medical center and, later, head of pediatrics at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., and at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy, where he also served as director of medical services and medical staff chair.
More recently, he was a fellow in global emergency preparedness and disaster response at both the Portsmouth and Bethesda hospitals. He also served as health affairs attaché for the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam, and deputy director of training and professional development in the Center for Global Health Engagement at USUHS prior to his retirement.
A decorated naval officer, O’Dell has received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal twice, the Navy Commendation Medal three times, and the Navy Achievement Medal three times.
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Why pediatrics?
“My wife and I have loved working with children our whole lives,” said Dr. O’Dell. “Every day in clinic is a joy and a challenge. Partnering with parents to keep their kids healthy and happy so each one can reach their own unique potential is one of the greatest privileges in medicine.”
Dr. O’Dell is welcoming new patients from newborn to age 18, and he is enthusiastic about serving Kosciusko County families. His office is located at 1355 Mariners Drive, Warsaw. To schedule an appointment, call (574) 267-6778.
