Tennis Results: Sept. 10
Grace Women 6, IU Kokomo 1
The women’s tennis team played at home for the first time this season and cruised to a 6-1 non-conference win over IU Kokomo.
The Lancers captured all three doubles matches, led by the No. 1 duo of Lydia Ruegsegger and Kiersten Martin, who won 6-3. Lauryn Riegsecker and Anna Graves took No. 2 doubles 6-4, while Morgan Mast and Gretchen Adams swept to a 6-0 victory at No. 3.
“I thought Morgan and Gretchen did an outstanding job getting us started at No. 3 doubles,” said Coach Marcus Moore. “It’s going to be important for us to have good performances in doubles in order to win close matches this year.”
The lone loss for Grace came at No. 1 singles, where Ruegsegger dropped a hard-fought match to IU Kokomo’s Gabbie Orlando 6-4, 6-4.
The other singles matches all went to the Lancers. Graves took No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2, while Mast battled to a 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 win at No. 3. Riegsecker and Jenna Lewis won by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively. Addy Jarvis ended with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6
Grace returns to Miller Field Tennis Courts on Saturday to host a Crossroads League doubleheader against Goshen and Huntington.
Bethany Christian 5, NorthWood 0
A tough night on the courts for the host Panthers as they welcomed Bethany to Nappanee for a potential sectional showdown.
A shorthanded Panther squad didn’t have Chaz Yoder at No. 1 doubles, so it mixed up its lineup. Bethany still managed to win three of the courts in three sets. Ethan Pairitz beat Wes Steiner 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, Austin Shenk and Matthew Dyck beat Brady Chupp and Charles Anderson 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, and on the other doubles court, Jacob Leininger and Breece Erickson beat Logan Perry and Karson Kirby 6-1, 4-6, 6-0.
At No. 1, Cameron Heinisch beat Nic Anderson 7-5, 6-4, and at No. 2, Noah Schrock beat Isaac Roberts 6-0, 6-3.
NorthWood and Bethany split the six JV courts three apiece.
