Goshen Girls 2, NorthWood 0
The host RedHawks controlled the match from start to finish in a key NLC matchup with the Panthers. Goshen took a half game lead over Warsaw in the conference standings, raising their league record to 5-1 with only a match with Concord remaining. Warsaw, which played out of conference on Thursday against Penn, sits at 4-1 with games remaining against Northridge and Wawasee. Goshen defeated the Lady Tigers 3-2 in their matchup played Aug. 31.
Goshen found the net twice in the first half, getting goals from Alessandra Lozano Gomez and Miriam Ruiz Sanchez, who also earned an assist.
NorthWood (5-2-1, 1-2-1 in the NLC) will travel to Elkhart to take on the Lions Saturday morning.
In the JV contest, Goshen defeated the Panthers 1-0.
Goshen Boys 4, NorthWood 0
On the boys side between the two Elkhart County rivals, the RedHawks also dominated the Panthers at Wellfield Park in Nappanee.
Edgar Mora Gonzalez and Emmanuel Diaz-Ruiz each potted two goals for Goshen.
NorthWood fell to 4-7-1 overall, 1-4 in the NLC. The Panthers will take the weekend off before traveling to Mishawaka next Tuesday evening.
Tippecanoe Valley Boys 2, Peru 1
Twenty-four hours after Valley was defeated by Rochester 6-1. The Vikings regrouped quickly to face Peru on the road. In what was there best performance of the season. Valley put together 80 minutes of excellent play and beat the Tigers 2-1. The defense was excellent holding down Peru’s offense, while the strikers and midfielders generated plenty of scoring opportunities.
Peru took the lead eight minutes into the game and led 1-0 until Carson Craft tied the score with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. Although the score was tied, Valley controlled the bulk of the first 40 minutes, holding possession well over 50 percent while playing smart soccer.
The second half was back and forth as both teams tried to gather momentum, but failed to do so. Finally, with 3:40 left in the game, Caleb Petgen beat the Peru keeper to his left on a beautiful shot. That put Valley up 2-1. Then the Viking defense took over smothering Peru by not allowing them a shot on goal.
The Vikings raised their record to 4-6-1, 3-3 in TRC play. Valley is back in action next Monday night at home against Metro Rage.
Elkhart Christian Academy Girls 5, Wawasee 2
The Lady Warriors went out of conference for a road match with Elkhart Christian, dropping the match 5-2. Statistics from the contest were not provided.
