LIGONIER — Fashion Farm’s Pumpkin Fantasyland theme for this year is “Mythical Magical Creatures.” A theme thought up and brought to life by painter Sharon Cripe, who has been a painter with the Pumpkin Fantasyland for 38 years.

Cripe shared she first started by painting the presidents and slowly the founder of Fantasyland, Charles Pumpkin, had her take on more and more responsibility.

“I just have loved working here,” Cripe shared.

She is not the only one who has loved their time at the Fashion Farm’s Pumpkin Fantasyland. Pam Endicott, Greenhouse Manager, who is working her fifth fall with Fantasyland shared this is a great place for generations to come and enjoy the season.

“It’s gone down with generations, this is a tradition,” Endicott shared. “We love hearing stories of coming out for 48 years or I bring my grandkids every year.”

This year Fashion Farm has invested in an additional attraction for the older children, young adults who visit.

“This year we have a new attraction,” Endicott said. “It is a mega super slide – a 100 foot long slide.”

More than the attractions, food, beverages and many pumpkins, Fashion Farm has been celebrating the fall season since 1972 when Patty Becker’s father started it.

Becker explained, “This is our 49th year putting it together. I worked with my dad who was Charlie Pumpkin. It went from really small to what it is now.”

Charles Pumpkin wanted a place for not only his children, but children all around to be able to have fun during the season without being scared.

“He wanted fall to be a fun time. It used to be more of a scary time with the witches and all that kind of thing. He wanted to make sure that the children had something to go to that was fun and good for the kids,” Becker said.

It has grown from a side of the barn stand with a Snoopy made by Charles Pumpkin to what it is today. This year’s display will include the presidents, Charles and June Pumpkin, Dolly Parton, Snoopy, elves, a phoenix, fairies, mermaids and trolls.

“When it comes to Fantasyland time, we add on other things,” Becker shared the add ons include hayrides, straw maze, tent with picnic tables, refreshments, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin bread, pumpkin donuts, pumpkin cookies and other flavors of ice cream.

The Pumpkin Fantasyland will open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Saturday, Oct. 1-31.
