Lancers Earn Road Victory

HUNTINGTON – Grace’s volleyball team vanquished Huntington in four sets on Friday.
Anna Frey was dominant for the Lady Lancers (11-15, 4-10 Crossroads League); the junior racked up 17 kills, 15 digs and 5 block assists to lead Grace to a critical road win.
Huntington began the first set with an 11-7 lead, but Grace scored five of the next six points to tie the score.
The teams remained almost inseparable, tying each other 10 more times down the stretch. The Foresters rallied to send the set to extra points, but kills from Frey and Jadyn Ross secured the win for Grace at 28-26.
The Foresters struck back with a second-set win. HU grabbed a seven-point lead midway into the set, then survived a furious Grace comeback to win 25-23.
The third set began well for the Lady Lancers. Grace earned an early lead and maintained it. A block from Jenna Mueller and Frey gave the Lady Lancers a 13-8 lead, forcing a timeout by Huntington.
Grace’s lead continued to expand as the Lady Lancers pulled out a comfortable 25-13 win. Frey and Alisha Leffring blocked an HU attack on the final point of the set.
The score remained close for the first half of the fourth set. Grace used a 4-0 spurt to open up a cushion thanks to kills from Frey and Jenna Mueller.
A pair of timeouts by Huntington did little to slow Grace’s momentum. The Lady Lancers coasted to a 25-20 win; Leffring put the exclamation mark on Grace’s victory with a thunderous kill on the final play.
Mueller amassed 14 kills on a .478 percentage, adding a solo block and four block assists. Morgan Syoen had a double-double with 25 assists and 12 digs.
Jadyn Block had eight kills without an error, and Leffring added six kills and four block assists.
Gina Novotny led Grace’s back line with 17 digs, and Grace Erwin added seven digs and two aces.
The Lady Lancers remain on the road Saturday, traveling to No. 7 Marian for a 2 p.m. match.
