Donavon Gene Sellers
Donavon Gene Sellers 84, Warsaw, passed away at 5:27 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
He was born Jan. 9, 1937, in Warsaw, to Helen Odetta (Smith) Sellers and Wayne Cook Sellers. At the young age of 21 he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Barbara Jean Drudge. They were married on June 13, 1958, and spent the next 63 years together, raising their three children and being blessed with becoming grandparents, great-grandparents, and great-great-grandparents.
Donavon was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, where he was a 1956 graduate of Pierceton High School in Pierceton. For a number of years, he worked at Standard Oil Company before he went into farming full time in 1961 for his entire life. He had a love and deep ties to the land his family farmed, which has been farmed by a Sellers since the land was parceled out in Indiana. Always a hard worker, Donavon had an appreciation for the natural beauty of God’s land and a sense of responsibility as a good steward of his farm.
He enjoyed the fellowship of his church family at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Warsaw where he played the guitar for the Friends Quartet. Donavon was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Barbara Jean Sellers, Warsaw; son: Dale (Eva) Sellers Claypool; two daughters: Sonya (Bill) Hathaway, Warsaw; Rebecca Sellers, Wabash; nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, William, and his great-grandson, Marius.
Donavon’s life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw and officiated by Lew Collier.
