Two Children Die In Elkhart County Crash

ELKHART COUNTY — A 5-year-old and a 3-year-old died in a single vehicle crash this afternoon, Friday, Oct. 29, in Elkhart County. The names of the children were not released by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:50 p.m. on CR 3, north of CR 38, north of Wakarusa.
A preliminary investigation has determined Jessica Tubbs, 28, Elkhart, was operating a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero, southbound on CR 3. The vehicle left the west side of the roadway hitting a utility pole on the passenger side and continued south off of the roadway hitting a tree.
Tubbs was transported to Elkhart General Hospital with life threatening injuries. The 5-year-old and 3-year-old were in the back seat and declared dead at the scene. The two children were not in child restraints according to the crash report.
An 8-year-od, who was wearing a seatbelt and was a front seat passenger, was taken to Elkhart Hospital with minor lacerations that are non-life threatening injuries.
The incident is under investigation by the Elkhart County Crash Investigation Team.
