AKRON — A teenager is recovering from a hit-and-run accident outside Akron that took the life of his sister on Friday, Nov. 5.
Isaiah Felix, 15, Akron, has “had a lot of improvements,” said Kelly Warner, a friend of Felix’s mom, Ashley Kinsey.
Felix had surgery to repair his jaw and should be coming home from Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis on Tuesday, Nov. 9, ahead of schedule, said Warner.
According to information from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Felix had been walking with a group of kids near SR 19 and CR 50N, north of Akron in Fulton County, when he was hit by what police believe to be the outside rearview mirror of a vehicle.
The vehicle also hit and killed Felix’s 12-year-old sister Brelynna “Bre” Felix. Both siblings attended school in the Tippecanoe Valley School Corp.
Bre’s funeral arrangements are being handled by Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Warsaw. A memorial visitation for her is set for 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at First Christian Church in Warsaw, 115 Park Ridge Drive.
Police found the driver of the vehicle, Gage Rogers, 26, Akron, on Saturday, Nov. 6. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail on Saturday on charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.
As of about 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, the GoFundMe page Warner had set up to pay for medical and funeral expenses was around $9,551 towards the $15,000 goal.
Warner said she and Kinsey are grateful for the community’s help.
Kinsey has “definitely felt the support and love” from others, Warner said.
