Valley Named Riley Corp. For Third Time

MENTONE — Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. has once again been honored by Riley Hospital for Children.
Valley received the “Riley Corporation” designation by donating the equivalent of $1 per student in the corporation during the 2020-21 school year.
The announcement was on the agenda for the Monday, Nov. 15, TVSC Board meeting at Mentone Elementary School.
This is the third year Valley has achieved the designation, said TVSC Superintendent Blaine Conley.
Grants, donations
At the meeting, the board accepted various donations and grants to help with school needs. The donations and grants include:
- A $1,685 donation from Core Mechanical Services Inc. for uniforms for the Tippecanoe Valley High School girls’ soccer team;
- A $1,000 donation from Good Oil Co. related to school safety at the high school. The high school is considering using the money for flashlights and temporary lighting in case of a power outage.
- A $350 donation from Jay and Leanna Bell for the TVHS Boomerang Backpack meal program for students in need.
- A $200 Lakes Area Autism Network grant for sensory items for the Mentone Kindergarten Readiness Center Inclusive Preschool.
- A $1,329 Kosciusko Endowment Youth Services (KEYS) grant for ukuleles for the Akron Elementary School music program.
- A $250 KEYS grant for materials and books for preschool curriculum at Mentone.
- A $429 KEYS grant for electric circuit kits for TVHS teacher Tricia Sederholm’s science students.
- A $135 KEYS grant for wipe board flip charts for Tippecanoe Valley Middle School teacher Robin Heckman’s math students.
- A $150 KEYS grant for a vacuum cleaner for TVMS special education teacher Cathy Olson’s life skills class.

The board also approved hiring Akron instructional assistant Christina Dunn and Mentone instructional Kayla Woodcox.
It approved Shannon Houlihan as TVHS JV softball coach, Clayton Adamson as TVMS eighth grade boys basketball assistant coach and Marc Green as TVHS varsity softball assistant coach.
It accepted the resignation of TVHS boys golf coach Nick Kindig; TVMS cook Angie Black and instructional assistant McKenna Grossman; Akron instructional assistant Sara Koors; and Mentone cook Leann Carr and instructional assistant Shannon Samuels.
The board’s next regular meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at Mentone.
