WARSAW — The Warsaw City Council has made some last-minute changes to help balance the city’s 2022 budget.
At a special meeting on Thursday, Nov. 18, at Warsaw City Hall, the council voted 6-0 to make some budget cuts totaling $510,200. Council Member Jerry Frush was absent.
The changes were necessary to help with having money in reserves and keeping the tax rate down. The council had to have the special meeting as adjustments are due by next week.
“The overall tax rate will be $1.2388 per $100 of assessed value,” said Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer. “So that tax rate went up about 4 cents from last year.”
Thallemer added that the slight increase in the tax rate is comparable to other recent years.
In other business, the council heard from Thallemer that he wished to create a committee within the council to help decide how to use the $3.4 million Warsaw got in American Rescue Plan Act funds. He asked that Council Member Jack Wilhite organize that committee.
The council’s next meeting is 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at Warsaw City Hall.
