Warsaw Man Arrested On Seven Criminal Charges
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested on seven criminal charges after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home and seriously injuring her foot.
Gabriel Raymond Fields, 38, 2301 E. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw, is charged with burglary, a level 3 felony; intimidation, a level 5 felony; residential entry and battery, both level 6 felonies; criminal trespass, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief and false informing, both class B misdemeanors.
On Nov. 12, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a fight in progress. Upon arrival at the scene, the officer noticed a trail of blood stains at the bottom of a stairwell. In the area where the incident occurred, the officer saw several wood splinters laying on a floor and a woman sitting in a chair with a deep cut on the top of her left foot.
According to court documents, the woman said Fields was at her home drinking alcohol and hanging out. She told the officer that Fields went to one of her neighbors to borrow a vape pen battery. When the neighbor did not let Fields use the battery, Fields started yelling. He allegedly grabbed a knife and started screaming that he was going to kill the neighbor.
The woman told Fields he was no longer welcome at her home. When Fields left, the woman shut and locked her front door with a deadbolt. She also attempted to barricade herself in her bedroom with a dresser. Upon finding the residence’s front door locked, Fields broke through the door, splintered the frame and entered the home.
Fields then forced open the woman’s bedroom door before she was able to secure it. The woman told the officer that Fields still had a knife in his possession when he forced open her bedroom door. When the bedroom door was forced open, the door went over the top of the woman’s left foot, slicing it.
Once in the bedroom, Fields grabbed a hold of the woman and took her to the ground. They began to wrestle until a neighbor was able to pull Fields off of the woman. After this occurred, the woman grabbed the knife from Fields. Fields then fled the scene on foot.
The officer spoke with the neighbor, who said he heard yelling coming from the woman’s home. He also heard Fields kick in the residence’s door. The officer was later notified that Fields had been trespassed from the woman’s home on Oct. 8.
Officers found Fields at a relative’s home. During the investigation, the relative said Fields arrived at her home about 10 minutes prior to offices’ arrival.
In an interview with officers, Fields said he had been at his relative’s home for two days and didn’t know anything about the situation at the woman’s residence.
Officers noticed blood on Fields’ pants and abrasions on his knuckles. Fields told officers the injuries were old.
On Nov. 13, the woman told officers that she received 13 stitches to close the laceration on her foot.
Fields has an initial hearing at 11 a.m. Jan. 3, in Kosciusko Superior Court One.
