CLAYPOOL — A new reserve deputy for the town of Claypool was sworn in during a council meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
Town Marshal Ben Sanders swore in Dalis Owens as a reserve deputy for the town. Sanders told the council that an interview happened last week after Owens contacted him and expressed an interest in being a reserve deputy for Claypool. Owens, who formerly worked as a deputy for the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, will begin working for the town effective immediately.
Matthew Wynn has also recently joined Claypool Police Department as a reserve officer. Wynn was sworn in during the council’s November meeting.
For the month of November, CPD responded to 170 calls for service. Reserve hours were 44.7.
Claypool Fire Chief Rick Hurley and Assistant Chief Tommy Stutzman also attended the meeting and gave an Autopulse demonstration.
Autopulse is a mechanical CPR device. In 2020, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory received a grant from K21 to purchase Autopulse devices for each fire department in Kosciusko County.
“It provides quality and consistent CPR,” said Hurley. “Back in the day, when the call went out, as guys started showing up, you would do a rotation line (of CPR). This takes care of all that. This provides better CPR than what we can do by hand.”
“It’s a wonderful tool and really takes the guesswork out of it,” said Stutzman. “You want the best for the patient. It takes a lot of pressure off our shoulders.”
The community was also reminded to not park on Main Street, as well as the inside of the loop on North Rebecca Street, West Noah Street and North Lindsay Street, from 4-6 a.m. Nov. 1 through April 1. This is for snow removal purposes.
Claypool’s next council meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18.
