SILVER LAKE – A public hearing has been set to determine whether the town will annex a small tract of land – a move that could open the door for construction of a Dollar General store that features grocery items.
Town Council will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the Silver Lake Town Hall, 604 N. Jefferson St., when they consider the annexation of five acres on the town’s north side. Silver Lake Wesleyan Church owns the land and is considering an offer from an entity interested in constructing a Dollar General store.
The property is on the northwest corner of Dixie Drive and SR 15.
Nearby homeowners oppose having a store nearby. Among the concerns are traffic and the affect of property values near the store.
The complete file on the annexation, including the petitioner’s request, fiscal plan and ordinance is on file for inspection in the office of the Silver Lake Clerk-Treasurer at 604 N. Jefferson St. Documents can be reviewed between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays.
Written comments can be filed with the clerk-treasurer prior to the public hearing. Those can be submitted to [email protected] or mailed to PO Box 159, Silver Lake, IN 46982. Letters may also be hand-delivered.
