State Sees New Record For Daily COVID-19 Cases; Entire State “Red”

WARSAW — On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the state of Indiana reported 16,354 new, positive COVID-19 cases.
This has been the highest daily number the state has reported since the beginning of the pandemic.
Every single county in Indiana is also in the “red” category on the Indiana Department of Health’s color-coded COVID-19 map. This map measures percent positivity and new cases per 100,000 residents, with the baseline for red being 15%.
Locally, Kosciusko County’s positivity rate is 26.1%. Elkhart, Fulton and Wabash County’s positivity rates have moved to 29%, 24% and 23%, respectively.
Since Jan. 10, Kosciusko County has reported nine new COVID-19 deaths. This brings the county to 201 COVID-19 deaths and 17,769 positive cases.
Fulton and Whitley Counties each recently reported one new COVID-19 death. Fulton County has reported 91 deaths and 4,318 positive cases. Whitley County has reported 71 deaths and 8,618 positive cases.
Wabash County recently reported two new COVID-19 deaths. This brings Wabash County to 139 deaths and 7,726 positive cases.
Marshall County also recently reported four new COVID-19 deaths. This brings Marshall County to 167 deaths and 11,258 positive cases.
More than 31,800 people in Kosciusko County have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
More than 3,618,000 Hoosiers are considered to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. According to statewide demographics, about 50% of those fully vaccinated are individuals who are 50 and older. About 53% of people fully vaccinated are female.
Statewide, the IDH website shows the number of COVID-19 deaths in Indiana rose to 19,761.
The total positive number of reported COVID-19 cases in Indiana is now at 1,490,496. More than 17,692,000 COVID-19 tests have been administered to Hoosiers.
Since the pandemic began, locally, Noble County has reported 11,656 positive cases and Elkhart County has reported 48,903.
In other northern Indiana counties, Lake County has 100,194 positive cases; Allen County has 92,354 positive cases; and St. Joseph County has 64,053 positive cases.
According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, about 858,000 people in the United States have died of COVID-19.
