Author Will Discuss Empathy With Warsaw Students
News Release
WARSAW – Warsaw Community Schools has announced local author Dani R-G is scheduled to visit all eight elementary schools over the course of the next three weeks to share her newly published book titled “Please.”
This guest reader opportunity aligns with the district mission and strategic pillars, particularly empathy. Sarah Graham, Co-Director of Counseling at WCHS and a team leader for the Empathy Pillar, accompanied Dani R-G to the library at Lincoln Elementary on Friday, January 21 where she was introduced by Polly Biltz, Digital Learning Specialist. The library was filled with teachers and 6th-grade students eager to welcome the local author and engage in an audience Q&A.
“Please” is a charming book filled with beautiful illustrations. Through rhyme, this picture book introduces the reader to Little Livi Robinson who thinks her mommy is funny. Although her mother forgets so many things like her money or the way to certain places, there’s one important word she always remembers to say. Through her mother’s example, Livi realizes that the benefit of saying please goes far deeper than just having good manners. While her mother uses please before asking her children to get out of bed, to hustle while getting ready for school, and to walk while at the swimming pool, Livi discovers the value of being polite, for it not only makes others feel good but also gives Livi an inner glow! In this humorous and delightful children’s picture book, a little girl learns how to feel good on the inside by practicing good manners on the outside.
After reading “Please,” the author opened the floor to questions. Students asked about the author’s background, journey to get published, work with the illustrator, and what inspired her to write the book. Dani R-G explained to the students that she has been rhyming since she was a child and enjoys creating stories that entertain and inspire children as well as their parents. Dani R-G shared that the idea came to her while mowing, that the book is semi-autobiographical, and that it was a ten-year process from conception to seeing her book published on Amazon. Dani R-G currently lives with her husband, three children, and Golden Retriever in Warsaw, Indiana.
Children in all WCS elementary schools will have an opportunity to meet the author and to purchase a signed copy of the book at a discount price. The book is also available locally at Belove Gift Shop in Winona Lake.
Warsaw Community Schools would like to thank author Dani R-G for giving her time and talents to enrich the lives of others through her work that supports the WCS Strategic Plan.
