Warsaw Woman Arrested For Battering Two People, Including Officer
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw woman was recently arrested after allegedly battering a man with a metal bar and kicking a police officer.
Naomi Gonzales, 36, Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; battery to a law enforcement officer, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery and resisting law enforcement, both class A misdemeanors.
On Feb. 10, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a fight in progress. Upon arrival at the scene, the officer could hear a woman screaming at a man, who was yelling at the woman to get her belongings and leave. The woman, later identified as Gonzales, appeared at the top of a flight of stars and tossed a bag down toward officers while continuing to yell.
According to court documents, the officer spoke with Gonzales, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication. During the conversation, Gonzales was uncooperative and belligerent and even told officers to stop talking.
Gonzales then became upset and began picking up items while throwing them in the room she was currently in. When the officer attempted to take her into custody, Gonzales allegedly pulled away from officers while physically resisting.
While being escorted from the scene, Gonzales spit on the walls and the stairs. She continued to be belligerent and kicked an officer in the leg above the knee.
The officer spoke with the man at the scene about what happened. The man said he and Gonzales were having an argument that became physical when Gonzales pushed, scratched, bit, punched, and kicked him. She also hit him multiple times in the back and head with a metal bar.
The man told the officer he had to push Gonzales away and at times pinned her down to stop the assault. The officer noticed multiple scratches on the man, including several deep scratches on the man’s chest area. He also had a large welt across the upper portion of his back from being hit by the metal bar.
Another person witnessed what occurred and said they saw Gonzales hit the man with a metal bar.
Gonzales was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Feb. 10.
