PIERCETON — A new orthopedic firm is looking at Pierceton.
Pierceton Town Council President Mandy Espinoza gave that news at the council’s meeting on Monday, March 14, at the Pierceton Community Building.
The town needs to sell land for the business to come in, Espinoza told InkFreeNews after the meeting. That land is located behind Dollar General, 521 S. First St., and is a vacant undeveloped lot.
“We have to have two appraisals per state statute,” added Town Council Vice President Matt Brubaker.
Espinoza said a representative of the company is looking at property that could accommodate a 20,000-square-foot facility.
Espinoza did not provide a name or other details about the issue.
In other town business news, Lexlil Rental is considering moving to the industrial park off Pequignot Drive from its current Pierceton location, said Brubaker, mentioning the move was for space.
“He’s kind of running two businesses out of his building currently,” said Brubaker.
Deputy clerk
The council also approved hiring Barbie Rater as the town’s new deputy clerk-treasurer. She replaces Kelly Engle.
The council approved a resolution setting Rater’s pay at $14 an hour for a 40-hour workweek.
In other business, the council:
- Heard a presentation by Fleis & Vandenbrink Office Manager/Project Manager Chad Salzbrenner on his company’s engineering services. The town is considering switching the company that handles that role for them. GRW currently provides those services for Pierceton.
- Heard from Annie Espinoza of the Pierceton Park Board that the Pierceton Youth League is currently signing up kids to play in the 2022 season with the deadline being Friday, April 1. She said coaches and business sponsors are also needed. For more information, people should visit the Pierceton Youth League 2.0 Facebook page.
- Heard from Stephanie Campbell of Pierceton’s Christmas decorations fundraising committee. She said their goal this year is to raise $20,000 for additional decorations. Anyone is welcome to join the group to help, with the group’s next meeting being 6 p.m. Monday, March 28, at the community building.
- Approved a request from Town Superintendent Casey Boggs to renew the town’s subscription for a utility GIS system at a rate of $2,400 for a year.
- Approved $100 dues for Boggs’ membership in the Indiana Municipal Management Association for a year.
The council’s next meeting is 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 11, at the community building.
