WARSAW — A Claypool man was recently arrested after allegedly fracturing a woman’s jaw.
Christofer Trae Colt, 30, 102 S. Main St. Apartment 1, Claypool, is charged with domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony.
On Feb. 22, a Warsaw Police officer received information about a domestic battery report. The officer went to a local hospital and spoke with a woman who said she was battered by Colt.
According to court documents, the woman said she arranged for Colt to pick up a child at her residence. She asked Colt to notify her when he was on his way to get the child. Colt showed up at the home with another man without notifying her. The woman said she knew the man to instigate arguments and told him to leave. When she shut a bedroom door so she could get ready, Colt pushed his way into the bedroom and began to argue with her.
Colt continued to yell at the woman and began grabbing laundry baskets in the room, dumping the contents on the floor. The verbal altercation turned physical when Colt repeatedly punched the woman’s hand while she held onto a laundry basket handle.
She told the officer she continued to tell Colt to leave her alone when Colt leaned over and allegedly bit her left hand. In an attempt to get away from him, the woman bit Colt’s arm. Colt let her go and slapped her in the face twice. At one point, the woman fell to the ground. When she sat up, Colt punched her in the face. He also stomped on her head at least three times.
The officer noticed the left side of the woman’s face was red and swelling. The woman also had bruises on her left and right arms, a bite mark on her left hand, and a small abrasion on her right tricep. A nurse at the hospital said both sides of the woman’s jaw were fractured.
Colt is currently on probation for resisting law enforcement and driving while suspended.
He has prior convictions for confinement with bodily injury, theft, and burglary.
Colt was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on March 16, with an $11,000 surety and cash bond.
