Man Arrested After Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Discovery

PIERCETON — A South Bend man was recently arrested after a traffic stop resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine.
Gary Gene Gregory, 59, South Bend, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 5 felony; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor; and possession of marijuana with a prior conviction enhancement, a class A misdemeanor.
On March 22, an Indiana State Police Trooper was in the area of US 30 and South CR 900E when he noticed a vehicle approaching him at a high rate of speed. The trooper’s radar clocked the vehicle traveling 69 miles per hour in a 60 mph speed zone.
The trooper pulled the vehicle over and identified its driver as Gregory. According to court documents, while speaking with Gregory, the trooper noticed a torch lighter in the vehicle. He recognized the type of lighter as one commonly associated with the use of narcotics. The trooper also noticed the vehicle’s occupants had freshly lit cigarettes while speaking with him. A K9 unit at the scene alerted to drugs in the vehicle.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers found drug paraphernalia and a jar containing 0.4 grams of marijuana. On Gregory’s person, officers found a bag containing 9.4 grams of methamphetamine.
Gregory was previously convicted of marijuana possession in Kosciusko County in December 2021.
He was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on March 22, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
