WARSAW — Two Warsaw women were injured after a two-vehicle accident on the east side of Warsaw.
At 10:31 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, officers with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a two-vehicle accident on East Jefferson Street, near Argonne Road.
Kenton L. Long, 26, Pierceton, was operating a white 2011 Chevrolet Silverado flatbed south on Argonne Road. He said the traffic light at the East Jefferson Street intersection was green for southbound traffic on Argonne Road. Long told officers that a Nissan Sentra entered the intersection from the east, running the red light as it proceeded west.
Danielle P. Wiggs, 19, Warsaw, was operating a beige 2004 Nissan Sentra west on East Jefferson Street. She said the traffic light at the intersection was green for westbound traffic.
According to police documents, a witness behind Long’s vehicle said the traffic light was red for southbound traffic about 20 to 30 seconds prior to Long’s vehicle entering the intersection. A second witness traveling east on East Jefferson Street entered the left turn lane at the Argonne Road intersection. After the light turned green for west and east traffic, he turned left onto Argonne Road. When he completed his turn, Long’s vehicle entered the intersection from the north and hit Wiggs’ vehicle.
A passenger in Wiggs’ vehicle, Mai-Lei J. Khiev, 19, Warsaw, was in and out of consciousness upon officers’ arrival and had to be extricated from the Sentra by Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory. Khiev sustained a facial injury and complained of hip pain. Wiggs complained of back pain.
Long and Wiggs were evaluated by medics at the scene and refused further treatment. However, Wiggs later went to Parkview Warsaw after leaving the scene due to losing consciousness prior to officers’ arrival. Khiev was taken from the scene to Lutheran Hospital Fort Wayne for her injuries.
Wiggs was released from Parkview with a possible concussion. Khiev was released from Lutheran Hospital with bruising and pain, but no serious injuries.
Long was cited for disregarding a traffic light.
Damages are estimated at up to $10,000.
