Wilson v. Madison
Dear Editor,
Careful review of the April 20 Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum video provided much insight into the worldviews of the two candidates for the Republican nomination for Indiana House District 22, Craig Snow and Curt Nisly.
Throughout the session, Snow repetitively framed his arguments and strengths around budget and finance. To Snow, all issues revolved around the concept of materialism. He even reduced the defense of human life to a “tax expense” calculation.
On the other hand, Curt Nisly framed his arguments and worldview around the concepts of individual responsibility and that the proper function of government should be to secure the God-given rights of We the People (life, liberty, property and self defense).
This stark dichotomy reminded me of two men of history: Woodrow Wilson and James Madison. Wilson was a calculating, progressive technocrat whose vision of government was to feed, sustain and direct the population.
On the other hand, Madison not only was instrumental in the drafting of our Constitution, but famously laid out, in Federalist 46, the steps that the people of the several states should follow to counter federal overreach in order to preserve their God-given liberties.
So, Hoosiers of Indiana House District 22, who’s it going to be: materialistic technocrat or defender of liberty? Wilson v. Madison? Snow v. Nisly?
For me, I go with Madison-inspired Curt Nisly.
