Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 3:48 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, West CR 900N, east of North CR 425W, Milford. Driver: Philip R. Shriver, 37, East Market Street, Warsaw. Shriver swerved to miss a deer. His vehicle went off the roadway and hit a pole. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, East US 30, west of South CR 450E, Warsaw. Driver: Christopher P. Carroll, 27, South State Street, South Whitley. Carroll’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 2:24 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, North SR 13, south of East CR 200N, Pierceton. Drivers: Travis L. Miller, 24, Kemar Street, Wakarusa; and Mary L. Bowman, 58, North SR 13, Pierceton. Bowman said she stopped for a turkey crossing the road. Miller’s vehicle came up quickly behind hers and swerved to the right to avoid hitting hers. The left mirror on his vehicle hit her vehicle’s tail light. Damage: Up to $1,000.
- 10 p.m. Monday, May 9, North SR 15, north of West Levi Lee Road, Warsaw. Driver: Michelle L. Jacobsen, 57, Chickadee Lane, Warsaw. Jacobsen’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 8:43 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, North CR 150W, north of West CR 300N, Warsaw. Driver: Emilio A. Lozano, 26, Hepler Drive, Warsaw. Lozano’s vehicle came to a hill crest at what was believed to be high speeds and went off the roadway. He lost complete control of the vehicle. The vehicle slid through the grass sideways. It then want into a line of trees and rolled/flipped at least one time. The vehicle then fell off a tree top and landed into a ditch. Lozano pulled himself from the vehicle and lay on the side of the roadway until help arrived. He was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital by helicopter for his injuries, having minor bleeding from his head. Damage: Up to $25,000.
- 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, South CR 700E and East CR 750S, Pierceton. Driver: Kayce L. Sims, 19, South CR 700E, Pierceton. Sims’ vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $5,000.
Milford
Officers with the Milford Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 3:44 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, South Higbee Street, south of Catherine Street, Milford. Drivers: Trisha L. Thornburg, 53, East Main Street, Syracuse; and Jeremy D. Corson, 54, North Knollwood Drive, Warsaw. Thornburg’s air conditioner wasn’t working right. She looked down at it. When she looked back up, her vehicle hit Corson’s. Damage: Up to $5,000.
Pierceton
Officers with the Pierceton Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 7:24 p.m. Monday, May 9, East US 30, west of East US 30/South SR 13, Pierceton. Drivers: Ryan J. Troxel, 20, East Division Road, Valparaiso; and Briana S. Marshall, 32, East CR 200N, Pierceton. Troxel was traveling behind Marshall’s vehicle. He checked left for traffic, then accelerated to make the right turn. He said he thought Marshall’s vehicle had already made the turn. It hadn’t, and Troxel’s vehicle hit hers. Marshall complained of pain in her back and tailbone, but refused EMS. Damage: Up to $2,500.
Silver Lake
Officers with the Silver Lake Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 7:38 p.m. Friday, May 6, West CR 950S, east of CR 600W, Silver Lake. Driver: Jesse J. Messer, 38, West Seward Drive, Claypool. Messer said an eastbound vehicle crossed over the center lane into his lane of travel, forcing him off the road. Damage: Up to $25,000.
Syracuse
Officers with the Syracuse Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 7:48 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 700 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Drivers: Levi A. Skeens, 27, East CR 1300N, Syracuse; and Joseph R. Ladig, 49, East Shady Lane, Syracuse. Skeens said he was in the Dairy Queen parking lot drive-thru. He attempted to back up, and his vehicle hit Ladig’s. Damage: Under $750.
- 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 804 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Driver: Eric L. Long, 59, North Huntington Street, Syracuse. Long was backing up his vehicle. His vehicle hit a parked one. Damage: Up to $2,500.
- 4:29 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, South Huntington Street, south of East Palm Drive, Syracuse. Drivers: Keith E. Welty, 74, Boston Street, Syracuse; and Bruce E. Albietz, 68, North East Wawasee Drive, Syracuse. Welty said he was checking his mirrors when he hit Albietz’s vehicle. Damage: Under $750.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 10:48 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 800 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw. Driver: Grismary R. Ruiz Vargas, 37, Heron Boulevard, Warsaw. Ruiz Vargas’ vehicle hit a parked vehicle. Damage: Up to $2,500.
- 8:57 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, SR 25, west of West Winona Avenue, Warsaw. Drivers: Debra L. Spencer, 69, South SR 19, Mentone; and Stanley I. Geese, 53, East Dove Lane, Milford. Spencer said the sun was in her eyes and didn’t see Geese’s vehicle stopped on the road for trash pickup. Spencer swerved to avoid a rear-end collision, but still hit Geese’s vehicle. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 7:32 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 1305 Mariners Drive, Warsaw. Driver: Alexandria K. Moody, 26, East Island View Drive, Warsaw. Moody was parking and hit another vehicle. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 7:13 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2556 Walton Blvd., Warsaw. Drivers: Zachary R. Applegate, 37, Sophie Lane, Warsaw; and Robert D. Ferguson, 38, West CR 600N, Leesburg. Applegate backed his vehicle into Ferguson’s. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, North Lake Street and West Perry Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Ashley M. Schafer, 35, Faunn Street, Winona Lake; and Joelle G. Pena, 17, East Backwater Road, North Webster. Schafer was distracted by her daughter in the back seat. She looked back at the road, and Pena was stopped in her vehicle and signaling a turn. Their vehicles collided. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 5:04 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, SR 15, south of CR 300N, Warsaw. Drivers: Thomas J. Ryan, 20, East Wildwood Drive, Warsaw; and Cade D. Barhydt, 23, North Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis. Ryan said he thought he fell asleep. His vehicle hit Barhydt’s. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, Commerce Drive, east of Frontage Road, Warsaw. Denny A. Le, 19, North Superior Avenue, Warsaw, biked into a vehicle. Damage: Up to $2,500.
- 3:07 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, SR 15, south of Lake City Highway, Warsaw. Drivers: Yesica L. Carbajal, 22, North Park Avenue, Warsaw; and Daytona L. Stump, 31, South CR 1275E, Akron. Carbajal said she was merging over to the left side lane and following too close to Stump’s vehicle. Stump’s vehicle stopped in traffic, and Carbajal’s vehicle hit hers due to following it too closely. Damage: Up to $2,500.
- 3:01 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, East Market Street and South Bronson Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Ellen M. Tjernagel, 83, Sunset Drive, Warsaw; Reid T. Hall, 23, South CR 450E, Pierceton; and Frances V. Ottersberg, 80, Crescent Drive, Warsaw. Tjernagel said she stopped at the four-way stop. She said she saw a friend of hers, Ottersberg. She entered the intersection at the same time as Hall, who had the right of way. Their vehicles collided, and that caused Hall’s vehicle to hit Ottersberg’s. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 11:14 p.m. Friday, May 6, SR 25 and Zimmer Road, Warsaw. Driver: Justin R. Kiser, 24, US Highway 231, Odon. Kiser drove left of center, leaving the roadway on the left and hitting a utility pole. He said he was drunk. Damage: Up to $5,000.
Winona Lake
Officers with the Winona Lake Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, East Winona Avenue and South McKinley Street, Winona Lake. Drivers: Brystal R. Leasure, 18, Logan Street, Warsaw; and Nathan T. Webber, 18, East CR 450S, Warsaw. Leasure said she didn’t see Webber’s vehicle coming from the left. She went to turn eastbound onto Winona Avenue, and her vehicle was hit by Webber’s. Leasure complained of pain in her neck and lower left leg. She was checked out by medics on scene. Damage: Up to $50,000.
