Warsaw Library Announces Summer Reading Program Theme

Children’s Services
Warsaw Community Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Challenge will begin on June 1 this year.
It will continue through the months of June and July. Children and adults will be able to earn prizes for reading and for doing challenges. WCPL will be using the Beanstack app and website again as they did this past winter, so if you participated in Winter Reading, you’re almost set. Registration will begin on June 1, and reading will begin then as well.
So let’s get down to brass tacks. You know what and when. But do you know what the summer program’s theme will be? WCPL staff will be decorating Children’s Services, as well as featuring books and activities that have to do with…oops! I almost spilled the beans.
Let me give you some clues. See if you can find anything in common with these movies, which are all available in WCPL’s video collection. No matter your age, you’re probably familiar with the 1985 film “Back to the Future.” Do you remember the setting with the most drama and magic? The “Enchantment Under the Sea” dance brought the while movie together and solved some problems in the space-time continuum. Does thinking about it make you want to see it again?
Are you too young to remember the “Back to the Future” series of movies? Here are a few clues for our younger readers. What song does Sebastian the crab sing in “The Little Mermaid”? It’s an ear worm, for sure. “Under the Sea.” Pixar’s “Finding Nemo” is another clue. Can you believe it came out in 2003? That’s 19 years ago. I feel super old now.
Let’s go a bit more recent. Have you seen the beautiful flick “Life of Pi”? It was released in 2012, and was even available in 3D. It’s the story of a boy and a Bengal tiger who are adrift in a boat in the Pacific Ocean. Or is it?
Have you figured it out? Please join WCPL for “Oceans of Possibilities” this summer. WCPL staff are preparing for it now.
