Convicted Felon Arrested For Possessing Firearm
Staff Report
WARSAW — A South Bend woman was recently arrested after allegedly possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
Kelley Ann Lane, 32, South Bend, is charged with carrying a handgun without a license and driving while suspended prior, both class A misdemeanors; and carrying a handgun with a prior felony conviction, a level 5 felony.
On May 12, an Indiana State Trooper was on patrol when he saw a vehicle traveling west on US 30 near Van Ness Road. The vehicle was traveling 67 mph in a 60 mph speed zone, resulting in the trooper pulling the vehicle over. Lane was identified as the driver.
According to court documents, while searching the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles database, the trooper discovered Lane’s driving privileges were suspended. She also had two warrants for her arrest in St. Joseph County and Goshen.
While searching Lane’s vehicle, the trooper found a box of ammunition and a semi-automatic handgun. A bullet was in the chamber of the firearm.
When asked if the gun was hers, Lane said the firearm belonged to a relative. She admitted to having felony convictions and not having a handgun carry permit.
Lane was previously convicted of auto theft in St. Joseph County and driving while suspended in Goshen.
For this case, Lane was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on May 12, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
