Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 5:57 a.m. Monday, May 23, South Packerton Road, south of East SR 14, Claypool. Driver: Linnette J. Rivera, 38, South CR 300E, Claypool. Rivera was traveling south on South Packerton Road when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $10,000.
- 7:08 p.m. Sunday, May 22, North CR 800W, near West US 30, Warsaw. Drivers: Logan W. Kline, 23, South CR 400W, Warren; and Gabriel Puga, 30, West Palo Verde Road, Fort Wayne. Kline was traveling south on CR 800W at the intersection of US 30 when he proceeded into the intersection and hit Puga’s vehicle. Puga complained of knee pain and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital. A passenger in Puga’s vehicle, Guillermo Alvarez, 40, Fort Wayne, was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for possible internal injuries. Damage up to $10,000.
- 11:44 a.m. Saturday, May 21, East SR 14, east of South Packerton Road, Warsaw. Driver: Michael S. Shepherd, 39, South CR 750W, Akron. Shepherd was traveling west on SR 4 when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $10,000.
- 10:36 p.m. Friday, May 20, East CR 500N, west of North Cranbrook Road, North Webster. Driver: Makera P. Newsome, 21, South Country Club Road, Warsaw. Newsome was traveling east on East CR 500N when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $2,500.
Silver Lake
Officers with the Silver Lake Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 10:23 p.m. Thursday, May 19, South SR 15, south of SR 14, Silver Lake. Driver: Susan M. Frank, 42, West Main Street, North Manchester. Frank was traveling north on SR 15 when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $2,500.
Syracuse
Officers with the Syracuse Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 12:22 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 730 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Driver: Patty L. Herschberger, 73, CR 146, Syracuse. Herschberger was backing her vehicle from a parking space when she hit a parked, unoccupied vehicle. Damage up to $2,500.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 11:02 p.m. Saturday, May 21, East Winona Avenue, east of South Maple Avenue, Warsaw. Driver: Cheryl L. Hiatt, 59, North Zimmer Road, Warsaw. Hiatt was traveling west on East Winona Avenue when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $5,000.
- 6:10 p.m. Friday, May 20, South Buffalo Street, near East Market Street, Warsaw. Driver: Ariadne L. Ursua-Romero, 20, East CR 400S, Warsaw. A pedestrian, Jonathan R. McGuire, 45, Fort Wayne, said he was attempting to cross Buffalo Street eastbound when he was hit by Ursua-Romero’s vehicle. Ursua-Romero was attempting to turn south onto Buffalo Street. McGuire complained of left knee and right wrist pain. He informed officers he would seek private transport for medical care. Damage under $750.
- 5:15 p.m. Friday, May 20, SR 15, near West CR 300N, Warsaw. Drivers: Austin D. Reynolds, 28, 6th Street, Winona Lake; and Hannah L. Carpenter, 26, West CR 400S, Yorktown. Reynolds was traveling south on SR 15 when he rear-ended Carpenter’s vehicle. Damage up to $2,500.
- 1:45 p.m. Friday, May 20, US 30, near North Detroit Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Raymond J. Connolly, 55, Hollywood Avenue, Tuckahoe, N.Y.; and Fonzie A. Lee Wirt, 46, Columbia Street, Huntington. Lee Wirt was traveling west on US 30 when he said Connolly’s vehicle intentionally swerved into his lane, resulting in a collision. Connolly left the scene and was later found in Plymouth. Lee Wirst sustained injuries to his entire body and was taken to Lutheran Hospital Fort Wayne. Damage up to $5,000.
