Max Egolf
Max E. Egolf, 81, Warsaw, died Thursday June 9, 2022, at home.
He was born June 2, 1941 in Warsaw, the son of (the late) Vernon and Bernice (Krauter) Egolf. He graduated with the Class of ’59 from Atwood High School. Max married Jean Marie (Taylor) Egolf in 1962; Jean died later that same year after a battle with cancer. In 1965, Max married Sharon K. (Black) Egolf who preceded him in death in 2009 after 44 years of marriage. Max was retired and formerly worked for RR Donnelley & Sons for over 30 years. He was a very active member of Otterbein United Methodist Church of Atwood, where he also served as the Congregational Lay Leader.
His pastimes included an interest in muzzle loader rifles; he had participated in meets sponsored by the National Muzzle Loader Rifle Association, held annually in Friendship. Max also had an interest in vintage tractors, and enjoyed servicing and restoring the older models. He was an avid reader; he especially loved reading western themed books and watching westerns on TV. Max was also a leatherman, enjoying various types of leather craft. He also enjoyed traveling, often with his daughter Raelyn, in their quest to find the “best tenderloin.” He always enjoyed helping others, and frequently drove for the Amish community, especially towing trailers assisting in deliveries of custom cabinetry and other items.
In addition to his parents and his wives, Max was also preceded in death by his sister, Dottie Hoffer and granddaughter, Jacquline Egolf. He is survived by his son, Bruce (Negsti) Egolf, San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Raelyn Egolf, Warsaw; step-son, Brian (Rhonda Burney) Landis, Warsaw; grandchildren, Caitlin Egolf, Kimbrom Egolf and Feven Tadesse, all of San Antonio, Texas, Lillian Bradley and James Bradley, both of Winona Lake, Axel Egolf, Warsaw and Noah Bradley, Kentucky, Matt (Taylor) Landis, Mishawaka, Kayla (Jeremy Evans) Landis, Akron and Cassidy Landis, Warsaw; great-grandchildren, Ezana Kidanu, Lillie Evans, Jailyn Evans, Jarron Evans, Chevy Evans, Trey Landis, Remy Landis and his brother, Jack Egolf, Dove, Del.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2022, at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 306 E. Main St., Atwood, with Pastor David Banning officiating. Friends may call in the church from 10-11 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow immediately in Oakwood Cemetery.
