NORTH WEBSTER — Amy Dennis was named the interim executive director of the North Webster Community Public Library during a special public meeting of the library’s board of trustees held Friday night, June 10.
“Amy has shown great interest (in the position),” said Cindy Hilgenberg, board vice president.
The board also approved the resignation of current Executive Director Tyson Wheeler. In his resignation letter, Wheeler stated his last day would be July 22.
The board voted to move his resignation date from July 22 to June 10. “Amy is in place and ready to go, ” Hilgenberg said when it was recommended moving Wheeler’s resignation date.
Dennis told the board that in her new role, she will need more time off the service desk at the library. She requested permission to hire a student for 10 to 15 hours per week at $10 a hour for the summer.
Hilgenberg and board member Eleanor Hooker, noting school was out for the summer, asked Dennis how easy would it be to find a student now. Dennis explained several applications were turned in earlier even though there was no job posted. She plans to start her search with those applications.
The board approved Dennis hiring someone for the summer. Dennis told the board she also asked another staff member to take on an additional 8 hours a week until the end of summer.
The board tabled the matter regarding personal time off so it could really dive into it and make the language of the policy easier to understand. The board did approve pro-rated time off for those who recently separated from the library, who worked in 2021 until the March 2022 board meeting.
Dennis reported she has already been in touch with the library’s payroll system regarding her being the interim director.
The board approved the library being closed at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, for a staff meeting.
