Jean Koher — UPDATED
Jean A. (Ketring) Koher, 97, Syracuse, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse. She was born April 8, 1925, in South Bend, to Everett & Lena (Monroe) Ketring.
She lived most of her life in the Syracuse area and graduated in 1943 from Syracuse High School. She married the love of her life, Christian F. “Chris” Koher Sr. on April 4, 1947, in Syracuse, and he preceded her March 19, 1983.
She was totally committed to her family, of which she was entirely proud of. She touched the lives of countless students as secretary of the Syracuse High School and Junior High School. She was a member of the St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Syracuse.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Lavone Miller) Shields, Syracuse; a son, Christian “J.R.” Koher Jr., Syracuse; a grandson, Jeff (Nicky) Shields, Syracuse; two great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Joan Stoelting, Syracuse.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister, Nancy Olivares.
Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2022, at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 1413 N. Long Dr., Syracuse. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in the church with Pastor Jim Tormey officiating. Burial will be in the Syracuse Cemetery. Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, is in charge of arrangements.
Preferred memorials may be given to the St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church.
