Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 6:44 p.m. Monday, June 27, North CR 350W, north of West CR 200N, Warsaw. Drivers: David C. Cox, 70, Eighth Road, Plymouth; and Juan Rodriguezuez, 48, 37th Avenue, Hobart. Cox thought cross traffic stopped, but it does not. He pulled out in front of Rodriguezuez’ vehicle. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 4:52 p.m. Monday, June 27, West US 30, north of North CR 500W, Warsaw. Drivers: Todd A. Shoemaker, 55, West CR 550N, Warsaw; and Vasyl Yakoviak, 31, Bobby Ann Court, Roselle, Ill. There is construction with lane closures on US 30 in the area of CR 800W. Shoemaker said he doesn’t remember any part of the accident. Shoemaker’s vehicle moved into the path of Yakoviak’s vehicle. Shoemaker’s vehicle turned onto its side, and he was trapped in his vehicle. He was later taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Damage: Up to $50,000.
- 3:24 p.m. Monday, June 27, West US 30, north of North CR 800W, Warsaw. Drivers: Ashlee N. Moore, 31, East Center Street, Bourbon; and Duane E. Heyne, 63, East CR 300N, Bluffton. There is construction with lane closures on US 30 in the area of CR 800W. Moore said she approached the stop sign northbound on CR 800W and didn’t realize traffic was traveling in both directions. She looked one way and thought she was clear to go. Her vehicle pulled into the path of Heyne’s vehicle. A front seat teenage passenger in Moore’s vehicle wasn’t wearing a seat belt and hit her head on the windshield. A child passenger in the back of her vehicle wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was found on the floorboard with a possible head injury. The juvenile and the child in Moore’s vehicle as well as Heyne were all transported to the hospital for evaluation. Moore said she has a suspended driver’s license and no insurance on her vehicle. Damage: Up to $50,000.
- 3 p.m. Friday, June 24, 4539 E. Fox Run Drive, Syracuse. Thomas Edington said he pulled his vehicle into his driveway. It began to roll backwards as he was exiting, knocking him down and hitting a parked vehicle. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 3:47 p.m. Thursday, June 23, EMS C27B Lane, west of EMS C27C Lane, Warsaw. Driver: Tyler M. Shepherd, 26, South SR 15, Claypool. Shepherd’s garbage truck caught a low hanging wire, causing several poles and a transformer to be damaged. Damage: Up to $25,000.
Claypool
Officers with the Claypool Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 2:59 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, South County Farm Road, north of West CR 450S, Claypool. Driver: Walter A. Charles, 45, West CR 800S, Claypool. Charles’ motorcycle hit a deer. He lost control of his motorcycle, laying it down in the roadway. Charles complained of leg and shoulder pain and was taken to the hospital. Damage: Up to $5,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 2:34 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, West Market Street and South Lake Street, Warsaw. Drivers: William V. Crouch, 78, Sophie Lane, Warsaw; and Christopher A. Musgrave, 33, North SR 13, Syracuse. Crouch’s vehicle hit the back of Musgrave’s. Crouch was cited for being a suspended driver. Damage: Under $750.
Elkhart County
Officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accident:
- 9:29 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, SR 119 and CR 15, west of Goshen. Drivers: Bonnie Kidd, 72, New Paris; and Justin Burden, 15, Nappanee. Injured: Krista Burden, 50, Nappanee. She complained of shoulder, spine and neck pain and was taken to Goshen Hospital. Kidd failed to yield the right of way and proceeded into the intersection hitting the Burden vehicle. Kidd was cited for cited for failure to yield the right of way.
