Book Clubs Announce September Picks At Syracuse Public Library
News Release
SYRACUSE — Did you know the Syracuse Public Library now has two book clubs? These clubs include its long-running adult book club and its newer young adult book club.
The adult book club will read “Let’s Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir” by Jenny Lawson during September, tying into Banned Book Week, Sept. 18-24. In this memoir, Lawson takes readers on a hilarious journey, recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor.
Discussions will occur at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, via Zoom and at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in the downstairs meeting room. Book copies are available at SPL. For those with devices, Libby has digital e-book or audiobook copies available. For information about the adult book club or to receive a Zoom invitation, contact Becky Brower at [email protected].
The young adult book club will read “Pan’s Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun” by Cornelia Funke and Guillermo del Toro. Based on del Toro’s critically acclaimed movie, this spellbinding tale takes readers to a sinister, magical, and war-torn world filled with richly drawn characters like trickster fauns, murderous soldiers, child-eating monsters, courageous rebels and a long-lost princess hoping to be reunited with her family.
Teens, young adults and new adults can join the group to discuss the book at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28. Readers can check copies out at the library. The Libby and Hoopla apps also have digital e-book and audiobook copies available. For information, contact Amber Weber at [email protected].
YA Video Gaming
Young adults can attend the library’s monthly video gaming program from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1. Play the library’s Nintendo Switch with fellow gamers and enjoy the provided snacks.
Library Closing
The Syracuse Public Library will close Monday, Sept. 5, in observation of Labor Day.
