WARSAW — Warsaw Airport Manager Nick King said he’s looking into the idea of establishing a self-serve fuel center for avgas.
At the Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners’ meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 13, King said he believed in the past such a service at Warsaw Airport was cost-prohibitive, but he’s seen some changes in pricing that make it worth looking into.
The service would not be for jet fuel, but for smaller aircraft that use avgas, he said.
It would be a great benefit for pilots who usually use other airports to refuel after the Warsaw airport closes at 7 p.m.
“If we can get some more after-hours avgas, I think it makes sense to look at the numbers,” King said.
The process would be about as simple as using a credit card at a self-serve gas station, he said.
There are a lot of new stand-alone systems with the technology that’s come out … it’s very user friendly,” he said.
He said he hopes to have estimates prepared soon to consider the move. King also said he thinks the airport would see increased fuel sales during the summer when there’s more daylight hours.
In other matters:
- The airport recently completed payments on the restoration of the north-south runway. The total cost was just more than $2 million.
- The board was told by CHA representative Robert LaFayette that final cost estimates for lowering of powerlines should be available by October. The project is expected to be complete by November 2023.
