WARSAW — “What I want for people is to come and enjoy a little piece of Mexico,” said Fernando Montellano.
He was speaking of his and his wife Jaquelin Juarez’s ice cream and snack shop La Michuacana. The Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce had a ribbon-cutting for the business on Thursday, Sept. 15.
La Michuacana is located at 1301 N. Detroit St., Suite B, Warsaw, and has been open since 2020.
The business includes numerous flavors of ice cream as well as “a lot of authentic Mexican snacks,” said Montellano. There are fruit drinks known as mangonadas; flavored waters; walking tacos; at least 30 flavors of popsicles; milkshakes; corn on the cob; dorichascas or Doritos with toppings including cheese and sour cream; and bananas topped with chocolate.
He explained the difference between Mexican-style and American-style ice cream.
“Our ice cream, it’s a mix of water and milk at the same time. It’s not so creamy like the American styles,” he said.
Giving back is a part of the business, with the couple donating their treats for several events.
The shop is open noon to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and noon to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For those who also want to enjoy the company’s treats at an event, La Michuacana has a rentable cart that’s able to keep items frozen.
People may call (574) 306-2185 to learn more about the rentable cart..
